Leicester City’s in-demand star Riyad Mahrez gave a timely reminder of his class with a stunning goal as the Foxes claimed a penalty shootout victory over Celtic in the International Champions Cup.

But Leicester chief Claudio Ranieri once again insisted that Mahrez will be staying with the English champions, despite interest from Arsenal in the £40million-rated winger.

Asked about his player’s efforts, which had seen Mahrez handed a standing ovation when substituted, Ranieri declared: “It is good for you [the media] not for us.

“Did you see how Riyad is happy? He played so well, worked so hard for the team, he scored a goal and he stays with us.

“It is very important [to keep him], he is one of our stars.

“Other teams maybe have more stars and maybe he doesn’t play at the same level, because maybe he is on the bench, so it is much better he stays with me.”
