Kenya begin T20 World Cup ticket hunt

The women's national team will be seeking a perfect start when they launch their quest for a ticket to next year's International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup be held in West Indies.

They launch their campaign against Tanzania today in Africa qualifiers in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Kenyan girls will also have to battle favourites Zimbabwe, Uganda, and hosts Namibia for a place at the global event. They will capitalise on the experience gained in their five build-up matches in South Africa.

Captain Margret Banja will lead the Kenyan side that is hopeful of getting it right this time round after several failed attempts. They, however, face an uphill task as they must overcome giants Zimbabwe, who have been World Cup regulars.

Veteran Sarah Bhakita, Sylvia Kinyua, Mary Wambui and Queentor Aoko are also expected to excel for Kenya.

Sepatately, the men's national cricket team is in South Africa for the Africa T20 Cup this weekend. They will be hoping to improve on their performance after they failed to shine in their last outings.

For two years, the Kenyan men have failed to go past the group stages of the event that features 13 South African provincial teams, as well as national representative sides, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Kenya won only one match and finished last in 2015.

Kenya is in the same group as Kwa-zulu-Natal, North Cape and Free State. Today they begin their campaign against Free State.
