Green Commandos take opponents captive in Uganda
Former national champions make it two out of two in EA games.
Kakamega High School’s Green Commandos marched into the quarter-finals of the boys’ football in the ongoing Brookside East Africa Secondary Schools games in Gulu, Uganda.
After humbling Ugandan champions Jinja Secondary School 2-1 in their opening match, they booked a place in the last eight with a 1-0 win over Alliance Rock of Tanzania.
With the win, Kakamega became the first team to advance to the knockout stage in Group C. Chris Alpha Onyango scored the all-important 35th minute goal for the 12-time national champions, who are yet to taste glory at the regional scene.

On Sunday evening, Kakamega launched their campaign against Jinja before a full Pece Stadium as Ugandans turned out in large numbers to support their team.
Henry Juma scored twice in both halves for Green Commandos, who returned to the East Africa scene after a two-year absence.
Kakamega top their group with six points and were scheduled to play Nakaseke International of Uganda in their last preliminary match.
Kakamega coach Brendan Mwinamo said his charges were yet to give their best and was looking forward to a better performance in their subsequent matches.
“We should have won convincingly because we dominated the match. Nevertheless, I’m glad we have achieved our first target of advancing to the knockout stage,” Mwinamo said.
In the girls’ title chase, former champions Wiyeta beat Uganda Martyrs 3-1. Prolific striker Monica Etot bagged a brace while Rhoda Nafula scored the third goal for the former East Africa champions. Kenya's Ibinzo beat ES Mutunda of Rwanda 1-0 in Group C.
Uganda exerted their dominance in netball as Kibuli thrashed Kaya Tiwi 53-15, while defending champions St Mary’s Kitende gave opposing teams a reason to fear as they defeated CS Lumiere of Burundi 113-5.
Handball defending champions Moi Girls Kamusinga beat Bor Girls of South Sudan 47-16.
