Former Kenyan international McDonald Mariga signed for Spanish second tier side Real Oviedo on Monday from Unione Sportiva Latina on a one-year contract.

The 30 year old underwent a medical and pictures emerging on social media this morning suggest a deal has been finalised.

A statement on club’s official website www.realoviedo.es revealed that the club finally secured the midfield signing they wanted.

“Real Oviedo has come to an agreement to contract the services of center midfielder McDonald Mariga, "Mariga", for the coming season.

“The player will join training sessions immediately, after having passed medical examinations in the Clínica Asturias. He will work under the directions of Juan Antonio Anquela beginning this afternoon in order to be completely ready for the coach when the season begins,” reads part of the statement.

At the height of his career, Mariga in January 2010, was set to sign for English Premier League club Manchester City, but he failed to obtain a work permit which stalled the move.

Then Kenyan Prime MInister Raila Odinga told the media that Mariga obtained a UK work permit but only after the transfer window for the Premier League had closed.

Mariga was Champions Champion in 2010 with Inter Milan by José Mourinho. That same year also conquered the Mundialito of Clubs with the Italian equipment.
