Manchester United star Anthony Martial has responded to speculation over his future at Old Trafford and rubbished claims that he has asked to leave.

The Manchester Evening News claims that a report on a gambling website which then got picked up by other media outlets claimed the French forward had requested a transfer and would be granted permission to leave the club.

But Martial has strongly hit back at the story on his Twitter site claiming it is nonsense.

The 21-year-old simply tweeted: "The rumours are false." Martial accompanied his post with a red dot to symbolise his commitment to United.

Martial was moved to clarify his future in February when he branded suggestions he could leave United in the summer as 'wrong', blaming newspapers.

The France international's agent was rebuked by Jose Mourinho in December after he discussed the possibility of Martial leaving on loan in the winter transfer window, amid interest from Sevilla.

Martial rarely speaks to the written or broadcast media after matches and once tried to disguise himself in the mixed zone by pulling his hood almost entirely over his face.

Although he was arguably United's standout outfield player in 2015-16, Martial endured a difficult second season and struggled to establish himself as a first-teamer under Mourinho.

Martial's underwhelming end to the campaign convinced the United manager to leave the Frenchman on the bench for the Europa League final just weeks after hailing Martial as an example teammates should follow.

"Let’s follow the example of Wayne and Martial," Mourinho said after he scored in United's April win at Burnley. "They come to a game that we need really to win and they gave more than expected and Wayne - I didn’t think was possible to go for 90 minutes - and he did, so I think so.

"I think the fact that we are fighting for important things still, is a good motivation to keep people together, to make people make an extra effort and training sessions start at 3pm.

"I was here at 10:30am and when I arrived some players they were already here, taking care of little details and taking care of their recovery and going to the swimming pool and taking care of their body. That is motivation."
