MASAI AT IT AGAIN: Joyce wins again at Nyali as Ngugi savours Thika win

Home club’s lady golfer Joyce Masai was at it again posting 15 differential points to emerge the overall winner of the Lady Captain’s (Terry Odoo) 2016 prize golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club on Saturday.
The event saw the on-form handicap 6 Masai posting 35 medal points in the first and 20 stable ford points in the second nines to give her a second trophy in less than a week after claiming the first January 2017 Ladies Medal at the same venue last weekend.
“Form comes and goes and today I played good golf and I’m glad to have won,” said Masai.
Club mate Mamta Patel playing off handicap 9 was the runner-up on 19 points while handicap 12 Grace Karanja was third on a count back score of 20 points.
Mombasa’s handicap 14 Mary Mariga had 21.5 points to claim the Best Lady Guest prize and Leisure Lodge’s Naomi Wambui playing off handicap 11 was the runner-up on 23.5 points.
In the Men’s Subsidiary, Nyali’s handicap 19 Mike Lessons was the winner on 43 stable ford points while Royal’s handicap 26 Ben Omuondo on 42 points and Vet’s handicap 23 Tom Ongeche were the Guest winner and runner-up respectively.
The day-long 18-holeevent attracted over 200 golfers where some men had to tee off from the yellow spots of the Ladies tee.
Among the men guest golfers was Independent Electoral Boundaries and Commission ( IEBC) nominee chairman Wanyonyi Chebukati of Royal Nairobi Golf club playing off handicap 6.
The event was to bid farewell to the outgoing club lady captain Terry Odoo described by among others the Kenya Ladies Golf Union Chairlady Mary Chebukati as an excellent team leader and player, who always consulted on various issues.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Grain Bulk handlers, Tudor Health Care, Kenfreight,Kenya Ports Authority, Interpel and FCM Travel Solutions were among the sponsors.
At the Thika Sports Course, Simon Ngugi won the 2017 Patron’s tournament on Saturday with 40 points.
Benson Thiga was the runner-up on a count back score of 38 points, tying with third-placed Mashiro Shiota.
Eunice Muthemba on 38 points was the Lady winner while F.M. Mwihia on 34 points, claimed the guest prize.
Elsewhere, handicap 20 Richard King’ori needed 42 points to win Governor Joshua Irungu golf tournament at the nine-hole par 72 Nyahururu course.
Enjoying the comfort of his home club, King’ori shrugged of club mate, handicap 14, Charles Kung’u after returning a count back score of 39 points, tying on the same points Nakuru’s with third-placed handicap 17 N.Gacheru.
