Never leave Dar without tasting Kiti moto. I can assure you that you will love it. This is baked pork immersed in hot frying oil and then served with boiled bananas (plantain) referred to as mzuzu or mshale.
But how did this sumptuous delicacy coins its odd name? Well, I asked the locals and the food vendors here who gave me a thorough explanation.
It is said due to the sumptuous nature of the meal, people whose religious beliefs prohibit eating of pork found it quite irresistible.
So they would sneak at odd hours, quickly order the delicacy and ate it seated uneasily on their chairs while glancing at their backs and sideways to see if there was someone watching them or coming towards their path.

Daraja La Nyerere is a breathtaking site to behold
Stories of ferries stalling at Likoni in coast are quite common with us. Talks have been underway for a protracted period for a bridge to be built across the ocean to link island city of Mombasa and mainland Likoni.
Well, this was the same case with Tanzania until a state of the art multibillion dollar bridge (USD140M) was launched in April this year.
The Daraja La Nyerere (Nyerere's Bridge) has now become a tourist destination with people coming far and wide to see for themselves this one of its kind in the entire East and Central Africa.
The 680 meters long mega bridge links the city centre with the south coast city of Kigamboni.Vehicles are charged Sh200 for the toll while pedestrians cross freely.

Kenya too has a stake in Fiba
Fiba is the world governing body for basketball and it is a great pride when a country is part of the federation. It is even a great honor if a country has officials in the global federation.
Well, Kenyans have not been left behind as there are six serving as Fiba Commissioners. They include Paul Agina, Joseph Amoko, Carolyn Ouma, Christopher Ogutu, Fred Awuor and Vitalis Gode who is even the Fiba Referees Supervisor.
