England captain Wayne Rooney has congratulated Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce for his appointment as Roy Hodgson’s successor.

The FA yesterday agreed to compensate Sunderland after agreeing a two year contract with Allardyce.

According to BBC sports, Rooney recommended the 61 year-old saying that he will bring changes to the Three Lions’ side.

The 30-year-old spoke during their pre-season campaign in Shanghai China yesterday, where they were beaten by Borussia Dortmund.

"He will probably bring a different way of playing to England," Rooney said.

"Hopefully it's a good way and we can be successful under him."

"Am I going to carry on, it was asked of me after the Euros, but yes, I'll be there." He added, revealing that he is not ready to leave international football.

Allardyce will pocket approximately £3.5m a year with a task of leading the Three Lions to 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“I will do everything I can to help England do well and give our nation the success our fans deserve,” said Allardyce.

He added that his main focus will be built on the main team and making his country and fans proud.
