Plans to reshape England football leagues underway: Where could be your club?

The Football League on Thursday proposed a shake-up to the entire English club football format which would see the creation of an extra professional division.

The organisation wants to see four divisions of 20 teams below the Premier League, rather than the current three of 24, in a bid to reduce fixture congestion.

It is hoped the new structure will be in place by the start of the 2019-20 season.

The amount of backing the plans will need could prove to be a huge stumbling block, with 90 percent of the 72 Football League clubs needing to give the green light to push the move through.

The move would see the amount of professional clubs in the English league system rise from 92 to 100.

It is believed the extra eight teams will come from the National League (formerly the Conference), although there have been suggestions the plans could see Celtic and Rangers integrated into the five-division system.
