Mpesa Academy ready to roast rivals

Mpesa Academy are not taking chances in the three disciplines they have qualified for in the Central Kenya Secondary School games that begin on Thursday in Thika. The school will feature in girls' basketball as well as boys' and girls' hockey where they are Kiambu champions.

Head coach Shem Otieno said they are not taking chances in the three disciplines as they seek to qualify for the National games.

"We have planned well in the three disciplines and we are determined to have one or two teams qualify for the national championships," he told Standard Sports.

In girls' basketball, Mpesa Academy are in Pool A alongside representatives of Nyandarua and Kirinyaga.

Pool B has 10-time regional champions Loreto Girls of Limuru and two teams from Murang'a and Nyeri.

Loreto Girls have taken part in national games for a decade since 2014 to last year when they were knocked-out by Mpesa Academy.

Loreto High School Limuru head coach Francis Sori said they are on a revenge mission against Mpesa Academy. "Let them be warned that we are out for total war against Mpesa Academy. We'll withdraw our money from their Mpesa account and knock them out," Sori said.

In girls' hockey, Mpesa Academy are in Pool A with teams from Nyeri and Kirinyaga while Limuru Girls are in Pool B alongside teams from Murang'a and Nyandarua.

Mpesa Academy lead Pool A in boys' hockey together with representatives from Nyeri and Murang'a, while Nyandarua, Kirinyaga and Murang'a II are in Pool B.

Yesterday, Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Central Kenya Secretary General Virginia Murage said they are busy preparing some final fixtures for different disciplines.

"We are just on our final touches on the fixtures that had a few hiccups before we make it public, but we are ready for the games," she said.
