SCHOOLS: Defending champions Nyamira Girls teach Pangani Girls how to play hockey

East African champions Nyamira girls maintained their unbeaten streak this year after teaching Pangani Girls how to play hockey on Tuesday as the Brookside-sponsored Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) national Term One games kicked off in Machakos.

Bivian Ateka scored a brace as Nyamira who are the Nyanza champions whitewashed Nairobi champs Pangani Girls 4-0.

Laureen Auma and Amanda Wamalwa joined in on the fun as they kicked off their title defense on the front foot. In the same pool, Tigoi Girls defeated AIC Nyayo Girls 2-0.

Other results saw St Charles Lwanga edge out St Joseph Kibwezi 2-0.

In the men's category, Nairobi School defeated Meru School 2-1.

At the same time, newbies Our Lady of Mercy Ringa Boys High School from Homa Bay County debuted with a 1-1 draw against St Charles Lwanga. The Nyanza Region champions are playing at the national finals for the first time in history.

Rift Valley champions St Joseph Girls Kitale on the other hand saw off Mpesa Academy 2-0.

In handball, Kwanthanze saw off Moi Forces 15-6 as Kamusinga thrashed Dagoretti Mixed 25-12. In boy's category, Kimilili defeated Handege 29-24 as defending champions Hospital Hill ran over Sabunley 38-9.

Meanwhile, defending rugby 15s champions Butula Boys were held to a 0-0 draw by Nyanza champions Kisii School as All Saints Embu saw off St Patrick's Iten.
