Defending champions Nyamira Girls thrashed Ng’iya Girls 4-0 to sail through to the finals of the Nyanza Region Secondary School games that will end on Saturday in Kisumu.

Laureen Auma scored a brace to inspire Nyamira to victory in a win where Amanda Wamalwa and Jacinta Opondo scored to set up a repeat of last year’s final where they will face off against Ageng’a Mixed Secondary School.

Ageng’a Mixed who are the Migori county champions reached the finals after humbling Kisumu Girls 3-1 in the second semifinal.

Happy Misango scored a brace while Velma Achieng sealed the win for Ageng’a who will be seeking to dethrone East Africa and national champions Nyamira Girls.

Speaking ahead of the finals, Ageng’a coach Aloice Owino said he is confident his girls have the quality to compete with Nyamira who defeated them 1-0 during last year’s final played at Kisii School.

“The girls have matured well compared to last year. We have been building slowly since we started the journey in 2021 and now I believe with the right tactics we can topple Nyamira and achieve our dreams of making it to the national finals,” said Owino.

On the other hand, Kisumu Day will face off with Ringa Boys in the finals of the boy’s hockey.

Kisumu Day made it to the finals after hitting Sawagongo 2-0 in the semis while Ringa knocked out Ngere Boys 2-0.

This final will be a repeat of the group stage match up which saw Kisumu Day rally from behind to force a 1-1 draw.

“We know what we did wrong during the group stages and we will rectify in the finals. We are hungry for nationals and we are not going for anything less but a win,” said Kisumu Day coach Booker Odhiambo.
