Lakers Hockey Club and Kenya Police dominated the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League weekend matches as the 2023 campaign slowly starts to pick up the pace.

In Kisumu, Lakers maintained their unbeaten run in the women's league after ending their winless run against former champions Blazers over the weekend.

Maureen Achieng's goal inside the opening minute was enough to hand Lakers maximum points as they survived Blazers late onslaught to pick a narrow 1-0 win at Kisumu Day High School hockey grounds.

The win, Lakers' second of the season, leaves them fourth on the table with seven points. The Kisumu based outfit has played three matches where they drew one.

The Austin Tuju-led side began the season with a 1-1 draw against defending champions Strathmore University Scorpions before thumping newbies Kenyatta University (KU) Titans 6-1 away in Nairobi.

The two wins and a draw leaves them four points behind leaders Strathmore University who have played three more games than Lakers.

If Lakers win all their game in hands, they will move top.

Blazers after the defeat in the lakeside remained second with nine points same as Amira Sailors who played out to a 1-1 draw against USIU Spartans. Blazers have played four games while Sailors have played five matches.

On the other hand, Kenya Police moved top of the men's league after their 4-1 victory against Sailors.

Police have 10 points after three wins and a draw. Wazalendo moved second after their 2-0 win over USIU men as Western Jaguars picked their first two wins of the season after a 2-0 consecutive victories against KCA University and USIU men.
