Lakers Hockey Club moved second in the 2023 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women's Premier League after picking four points in their first two matches of the season played at City Park away in Nairobi over the weekend.

On Sunday, national women's hockey team striker Alice Owiti scored a hat trick as Lakers humbled newbies Kenyatta University {KU) 6-1 in a seven-goal thriller match.

Last season's club top scorer Debra Achieng, new signing Ruth Netia and reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Aurelia Opondo sealed the big win as Monica Kitui bagged KU's consolation goal.

On Saturday, the Kisumu outfit kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against defending champions Strathmore University Scorpions.

Achieng gave Lakers the lead in the 42nd minute before Melvin Muga rescued a point for Scorpions with a last minute penalty stroke.

The win and draw moved Lakers to second in the standings with four points, four behind leaders Strathmore who have played three more games.

In the men's Premier League, Sikh Union hammered Strathmore Gladiators 3-1.

Annup Walmiki, Yuvray Walmiki and Harvir Singh netted for the Sikh Union as Gideon Mshindi grabbed Gladiator's consolation.

In another rmatch, John Mark scored the only goal as Sailors edged out Greensharks 1-0.

In the Super League, Kisumu Youngsters thrashed University of Eldoret (UoE) Men 4-1 as Kisumu Queens lost 2-0 to former Premier League outfit Sliders 2-0.

Nakuru Ladies on the other hand drew 0-0 with Mombasa Sports Club.
