Nyanza regional hockey girls champions Nyamira Girls from Siaya County kicked off the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Term One National Games on a high note after thrashing St Charles Lwanga from Coast 5-0 at Hill School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County on Tuesday.

Laureen Auma and Stephanie Seba each scored a brace as Marcy Dawo sealed the important Group A win the Siaya County hockey giants needed in their opening Group A match.

The win sees Nyamira top the pool alongside St Joseph Girls Kitale who picked three points and five goals without dropping a single sweat.

St Jospeh were awarded a walk over after Hillcrest failed to show up in time for the match after arriving late in Eldoret.

In Group B, Western Region champions Tigoi Girls picked a narrow 1-0 win over AIC Nyayo from Eastern as Loreto Girls from Central thumped Afraha 6-1.

The games continue on Wednesday with Tigoi Girls facing Afraha, Loreto playing AIC Nyayo and Hillcrest seeking redemption against St Charles Lwanga.

Nyamira Girls on the other hand will face off against St Joseph Girls Kitale in the top match of the day.

In the boy's category, defending champions St Anthony's Boys Kitale saw off Meru School 2-0 as Maseno Schoolo from Nyanza drew 0-0 with Nairobi School in the Group A matches.
