Gathugu Secondary School are one win away from reaching Central Regional Term One finals, a feat head coach John Nakitare is keen to achieve tomorrow when the Kiambu County finals kick off at Mangu High School.

The Githunguri Sub-County hockey champions will play Thika High School in a do or die knockout match with the winner proceeding automatically to the Central Region finals.

"We have beaten many teams including Kijabe, Kiereini, Gatamaiyo and Alliance High and now we just have to hold on and see off Thika on Friday.

This is an improvement from our last year's performance where we were knocked out at the sub-county stage," said Nakitare.

Gathugu captain Samwel Mwangi added that they are ready for the counties.

"We have come from far. We are determined to take our school far this year after last year's disappointments and tomorrow we will win," said the Form Three student.

Mangu will face off against Alliance High in the other playoffs.

The winners of the playoffs will face off in the final but both would have qualified for the regionals.

Nakitare started hockey in 2018 and has slowly raised up through the ranks to the county levels.

He said with the support from the administration they have been able to get where they are today.

"Our Principal and Deputy Principal have been very supportive and we have to reward their faith by retting to the regionals," said Nakitare.
