United States International University Africa (USIU-A) Spartans on Saturday came from behind to deny bottom placed Amira Sailors their first victory of the 2022 season as they played out to a 1-1 draw in a Kenya Hockey Union Premier League match at City Park Stadium.

Kenyan international Leah Omwadho gave Amira the lead in the 24th minute before Perez Akinyi salvaged a point for USIU after leveling the scores in the 52nd minute.

Sailors headed into the match winless having registered four draws and four losses in earlier matches that left them bottom on four points.

The draw did them no favor, as they remained joint bottom on the log with Sliders on five points.

On the other hand, the university students also were dealt a blow after missing the chance to dislodge Lakers Hockey Club from third position on the standings.

USIU remain fourth on eight points same as the Kisumu-based outfit who have a superior goal difference. The Spartans however have two games in hand.

Strathmore University Scorpions top the standings with 18 points as defending champions Blazers sit in second-placed on 14 points. The teams have played six and seven matches, respectively.

In the men's Premier League, USIU-A Mashujaa, the university's men's team played out to a 2-2 draw against Western Jaguars but the results have since been withheld pending more direction from the federation.
