Hockey: Lakers seek redemption against Sliders, Blazers in Nairobi

Lakers Hockey Club will be seeking to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to play Sliders and defending champions Blazers as the Kenya Hockey Union Premier League takes shape at City Park in Nairobi on Saturday.
The Kisumu-based club have lost two matches so far in their four matches played. They are sixth on the seven-club log on four points after four matches.
Lakers will face Sliders on Saturday from 2 pm before playing Blazers on Sunday at 9 am at the same grounds.
"We had not played for the past three months owing to our five players featuring or the national team at the Commonwealth Games but we are slowly picking up."
"We really wanted a win against Strathmore but we were unlucky after conceding a late goal and having our equalizer ruled out. The dream remains the same, to compete with the best and I believe we can still catch up with the leaders," said Lakers Team Manager JP Otieno.
leaders Strathmore University Scorpions will kick off the games when they face off against bottom-placed Amira Sailors from 12 pm.
The university students will be seeking to maintain their perfect start to the season and register their sixth straight win of the season as they continue with their surge towards attempting to dethrone record champions Blazers.
Scorpions are currently top of the log with 15 points and are yet to concede a single goal this season.
They have defeated Lakers (1-0), Sliders (2-0), Wolverines (1-0), Sailors (2-0) and defending champions Blazers (2-0).
Meanwhile, high-flying Western Jaguars will be seeking to end Butali Warrior's unbeaten run when they travel to face the defending champions in a top-of-the-table match from 6 pm.
Jaguars side who have not lost any of their last five matches have scored 12 goals in their last four matches and head coach Mike Malungu is banking on their recent form to topple the champions.
The Kakamega-based club kicked off the season on the wrong foot after losing three of their first four opening matches but have since picked up the pace to climb up to third in the log.
In their last four matches, Jaguars have edged out Mombasa Sports Club (7-0), Parkroad Badgers (1-0), Greensharks (2-1) and Strathmore University Gladiators (1-0).
Warriors are currently leading the standings with 29 points after winning nine of their 11 matches played and drawing two. Jaguars are third with 16 points.
With nine matches left till the end of the season, a win for the leaders will improve their chances of retaining the title they won last year.
Wounded Strathmore Gladiators will face off against Greensharks from 4 pm in the other men's match.
