Defending champions of the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women's Premier League Blazers moved second in the log after thrashing Dutch Group Flowers (DFG) Wolverines 3-0 at City Park Stadium on Saturday.

international Tracy Karanja gave Blazers the lead in the 14th minute before the fast-rising Eleanor Chebet doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute.

Joan Anjao who joined the side in 2019 from Tigoi Girls bagged her first goal after rounding off the game with a late goal deep into stoppage time.

The champions have blown hot and cold this season and were hoping to hit the ground running as they attempt to catch up with leaders Strathmore Scorpions who play Lakers Hockey Club on Sunday.

Blazers headed into the match placed third on the table with seven points from four matches, the same as United States International University Africa (USIU-A).

After the win, they move second on 10 points and two points behind leaders Strathmore University. Blazers have played five matches where they have lost one, drawn one and won two. Strathmore are top of the log with 12 points and are yet to concede a single goal this season.

They have defeated Sliders (2-0), Wolverines (1-0), Sailors (2-0) and defending champions Blazers (2-0).

The record champions will on Sunday take on bottom-placed Amira Sailors who lost to Sliders 2-0 last weekend.
