Wazalendo Hockey Club on Saturday marked their exit in the 2021 Africa Cup for Clubs Championships with a 4-2 defeat to Tairat from Egypt in their last pool match played at the Theodosia Okoh Stadium in Accra, Ghana.

The defeat left the Kenyan side winless in their three Group B matches played against Ghana Revenue Authority, Zamalek and Tairat. Wazalendo finished last in Pool "B" with no point.

Tairat captain Answer Adam, Mohamed Regab, Ramadhan Abbas and Taerk Ibrahim scored for the Egyptians.

Griffin Okombe and Joseph Kasua bagged the Kenya side’s consolation goals.

Wazalendo kicked off the continental hockey tournament on a low note after losing 2-1 to Egyptian giants Zamalek on Wednesday.

Wycliffe Mbeda scored Wazalendo’s consolation goal in the 47th minute with Ali Ahmed and Basha Mahmoud scoring for the Egyptians.

Wazalendo’s hopes of progressing to the knock out stages of continental games were relinquished on Thursday after a 1-0 defeat to hosts Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Wazalendo, who were returning to the continental scene after a 14-year hiatus, failed to sparkle.

They qualified for the annual event after finishing second behind champions Butali Sugar Warriors during the 2019 Kenya Hockey Union Premier League.

Butali did not confirm participation due to financial constraints.

Blazers and United States of International University of Africa (USIU-Africa), who finished in the top two positions in the 2019 women's KHU Premier League, also missed the annual event due to financial constraints.
