The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union Secretary General Davji Atella was today injured during a protest in Nairobi.

Atella was leading a protest over the delayed posting of medical interns and the payment of fees to postgraduate students when the incident took place.

KMPDU Deputy Secretary General Dennis Miskella confirmed the incident to the Standard saying Atella had been rushed to the Nairobi Hospital.

"We were marching towards the treasury, around the Argwings Kodhek road when a cop just shot him at close range in the head and he just collapsed," said Miskella.

Miskella said Atella was in stable condition.

On Tuesday, KMPDU wrote a letter to the Regional Commander informing them of the planned protest.

"In light of the importance of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all participants, we kindly request your assistance in providing security during this event," said Atella in the letter.
