Trans Nzoia county receives Sh2 million maternity beds, mattresses donation

Trans Nzoia County received Sh2 million maternity beds and mattresses donation from Blackmint Africa Consulting Limited.

County Health Chief Officer Judith Simiyu, who received the donation from Blackmint Africa Consulting Ltd chief operations officer Philbert Burudi, said it will improve the bed capacity at Kijana Wamalwa Teaching and Training Hospital, which has a deficit of 105 beds.

She said the public and private partnership is key to improving healthcare in the county.

"We are thankful for the donation, and the equipment will significantly increase the bed capacity in our mother and baby care ward. The public and private partnership is critical in improving the health of the people," said Simiyu.

She acknowledged the bed deficit and shortage of other medical supplies at the hospital saying the county administration is working with development partners to equip the facility.

The Health Chief Officer assured that the county government is committed to improving maternal and child care to reduce the mortality rate.

"For us to achieve the goals of quality health service for our people, we invite partners to join hands with us to equip this critical facility," she said.

Burudi reiterated the firm's commitment to supporting county governments in achieving quality health service.

He commended the collaborative efforts with Governor George Natembeya's administration, emphasizing the positive impact on Trans Nzoia residents.

Burudi emphasised the importance of transforming healthcare services, particularly for mothers and children.

"Our key mandate is to ensure the welfare of Kenyans, and our agenda is to support counties to enable them to offer quality health services to the population," he said.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by county governments, including delays in procurement and emphasized the firm's role in filling these gaps.

Burudi said apart from the donation of medical care equipment, Black Mint Africa Consulting Ltd also supports children's programmes in the country.

Meanwhile, more than 5,000 residents benefited from free screening and treatment during a medical camp organised by Trans Nzoia Women Rep Lilima Siyoi at Masaba Primary School in Kiminini township.

Various institutions, including Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, Equity Afya, Reale Hospital, Aga Khan, Cherangany Nursing Home and Lilian Siyoi Foundation, participated in the free medical camp.

Siyio said the free medical camp provided an opportunity for residents to understand their health status and immediate interventions.

The lawmaker lauded the institutions that agreed to support her call for the medical camp.

"Poverty is the biggest challenge denying Kenyans the chance to secure quality medication, and such an event would help address the problem," said Siyoi.
