Bliss GVS Pharma, a pharmaceutical company, has donated anti-malaria drugs to support the government's efforts of fighting the disease in the Lake Western region.

The donations are part of their 'Act for Africa' campaign, an initiative geared towards ensuring a malaria-free continent.

World Malaria Day is an international observance commemorated every year on 25 April and recognizes global efforts to control malaria.

"The campaign's aim is to elevate malaria and health awareness in Society and also carry out medicinal donations, not only in Kenya but across the continent," said Bliss GVS Pharma Sales Manager Kisumu Region Dr Romeo Were

"It is our belief that this particular program will go a long way in curbing and reducing malaria in Kenya and in Africa."

Speaking while receiving the donations, Lumumba Sub County Medical Superintendent Dr Pamela Olilo said the drugs will improve access and availability of the life-saving drugs to residents in the region.

"Malaria is a major health challenge in the Western region and we need all the support we can to combat it. This donation will help improve access to medicine for patients and save lives," she said.

The donation is expected to help reduce the burden of malaria which is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the Western region of Kenya.
