Covid-19: 10 people succumb, 2,436 recover as 1,223 test positive

Kenya has recorded 1,223 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 4,003 raising the country's caseload to 299,732.

In a statement on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 30.6 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 3,046,316.

Out of the new patients, 647 are female, whereas 576 are male, with the youngest carrier being a seven-month-old baby and the oldest aged 101.

Of the new cases, 91 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 611 cases, Taita Taveta 103, Siaya 77, Kiambu 65, Migori 38, Bungoma 30, Machakos 29Kajiado 25, Marsabit 24, Kwale 23, Laikipia 21, Nakuru and Kilifi 20 cases each, Garissa 15, Nyeri 14, Embu and Meru 13 cases each, Murang’a and Kakamega 11 cases each, Mombasa 10, Elgeyo Marakwet 9, West Pokoto 8, Kisumu 7, Makueni 5, Uasin Gishu and Vihiga 4 cases each, Nandi and Narok 3 cases each, Nyamira and Kericho 2 cases each, Kisii, Trans Nzoia and Homa Bay 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll has risen to 5,394 after 10 deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 256, 551 after 2,436 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours 2,335 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 101 from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 207,141 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 49,410 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 1,089 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 24,349 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fifty (50) patients are in the ICU with 21 of them are on ventilatory support while 23 are on supplemental oxygen. Six patients are under observation.

Another 270 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 247 of them in the general wards while 23 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 10,134,012 Covid-19 vaccines across the country according to the Ministry of Health latest records.

Of these, 5,876,825 have been partially vaccinated while 4,222,839 have been fully vaccinated.

Another 21, 130 doses have been administered to those between 15 and 18 years while 13,218 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 55.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.5 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.
