Kenya records 15 Covid-19 deaths, 515 cases in last 24 hours

Kenya on Saturday recorded 515 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 7,981 raising the country's caseload to 246,296.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 6.5 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,494,312.

Out of the new patients, 279 are male, whereas 236 are female, with the youngest carrier being a four-month-old baby, and the oldest aged 102.

Of the new cases, 27 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 97 cases, Nyeri 53, Baringo 37, Nakuru 34, Kisii 31, Kiambu 30, Uasin Gishu 28, Meru 23, Machakjos 14, Nyandarua and Trans Nzoia 13, Kajiado and Wajir 11 cases each, Embu 10, Lamu and Mombasa 9 cases each, Tharaka Nithi and Turkana 8 cases each, Isiolo and Bungoma 7 cases each, Murang’a 6, Kirinyaga, Laikipia and Garissa 5 cases each, Elgeyo Mrakwet, Kericho and Siaya 4 cases each, Taita Taveta, Kakamega and Busia 3 cases each, Homa Bay, Bomet, Migori, Narok, Kisumu and West Pokot 2 cases each, Kilifi, Kitui, Kwale and Makueni 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 4,980 after 15 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 236,803 after 634 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 540 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 94 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 191,531 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 45,272 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,444 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,259 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and fourteen (114) patients are in the ICU, 83 of whom are on ventilatory support and 25 on supplemental oxygen. Six (6) patients are on observation.

Another 513 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 474 of them in general wards and 39 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has at September 17, 2021, administered 3,337,913 vaccines across the country.

Of these, the total first doses are 2,480,543 while the second doses are 857,370.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 248,048, others 270,655, Health Workers 139,131, Teachers 127,035 while Security Officers are at 72,501.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 34.6 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.1 per cent.
