Prepare yourselves, Man United fans. It looks like your latest big-money signing is pretty much done.

Sweden and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof will be joining United for the start of next season, after the club announced on their Twitter account that they had agreed what it likely to be a £30.7million deal. And with the deal now close, it's a move that has United fans asking several questions.

Who exactly is Victor Lindelof ? Is he any good? Will he make a difference to Jose Mourinho's side? And, perhaps most importantly… what squad number is he going to wear?

Fear not, good people - we have already figured out the answer to that key question, thanks to the cunning detective work you can see below. As you can see in our (not entirely scientific) calculations, Jesse Lingard has a major role to play in this shirt number decision…

Lindelof wears number 14 for Benfica.

Rather than just being a random allocated number, it seems Lindelof has some attachment to 14. He has also worn it for Sweden, choosing it as his squad number at Euro 2016.

However, as the Old Trafford faithful will know, the number 14 shirt is not currently available at United… thanks to Jesse Lingard.

So, seeing as he can't have his favourite number, which shirt is Lindolf going to pick? He's worn number three on international duty in the past, so that might have been an option…

…but Eric Bailly has already bagged that jersey.

Fortunately, while all the other traditional numbers for defenders are taken…

…the number two is still free - and Lindelof has worn '2' for Sweden.

Hence the logical conclusion that, if and when he moves to Manchester, Lindelof will become United's new No2!

We offer no guarantees that this will definitely happen, of course. But if you're looking for a gift for the United fan in your life, it might be worth gambling on a 'Lindelof 2' shirt…
