Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira was sensationally sent off after being fouled by the referee as Porto were eliminated from the Portuguese League Cup in embarrassing fashion.

Porto lost 1-0 at Moreirense in the Taca da Liga but it’s referee Luis Godinho that has got everybody talking.

The referee’s decision to send Danilo off was scandalous.

As the referee was running backwards, blissfully unaware of the Porto players around him, he knocked straight in Danilo.

The incident came three minutes after Danilo had already been booked and so he saw red after the referee's shocking blunder.

Danilo took to his Instagram account after the match to share his frustration.

He said: “I have seen and reviewed the footage more than a hundred times and honestly I can not understand the criterion of this gentleman to make such a decision. I’ve watched many episodes in football but this was undoubtedly the most shameful!”
