Farting during a match is a punishable offence these days, it seems.

Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, a left-back playing in a reserves match for Jarna SK against Pershagen SK, was shown a red card for farting during a match.

Speaking about the bizarre moment, Ljungkvist told Lanstidningen Sodertalje, "I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go. Then I received two yellow cards and then red.

"Yes, I was shocked. It's the strangest thing I have ever experienced in football." We can believe that, Adam!

"I asked the referee, 'What, am I not allowed to break wind a little?' 'No,' he replied... I don't get it, but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not."

Well, we're glad you've cleared that up.

The weirdness doesn't stop there, either. Opposition forward Kristoffer Linde also shared his view on the incident:

"I was standing a good distance away but I heard the fart loud and clear. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen on a pitch, and I've been playing football since I was eight years old."

Explaining his reasoning behind the decision, referee Dany Kako said, "I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a second yellow card."

And he's got previous, as well. "Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too."

Madness. So, here's a tip for all footballers who need to break wind during a game: just make sure they're silent but violent, yeah?
