According to English news outlets, an Arsenal player tested positive for coronavirus days before the Premier League restart clash at the Etihad Stadium with Manchester City.

The player reportedly came into contact with two more individuals.

However, it is understood following an all-negative return of results after the previous round of testing, the club was keen to test again in the case of a false positive result.

Arsenal’s preparations were thrown into "chaos" when a player tested positive for coronavirus and two more had been in close contact.

After confirming to the Premier League there were no infections, the three were allowed to return to training, a day before the restart.

Raheem Starling opened the scoring for Man City before half time after Arsenal substitute David Luiz failed to deal with a simple ball into the box.

Luiz was at fault again in the second half after fouling Algerian Riyad Mahrez in the box, leaving Referee Anthony Taylor with no choice but to award a penalty.

Kevin De Bruyne converted the spot-kick and stretched their lead to 3 after a neat exchange in the box saw substitute Phil Foden slot the ball home.
