A famous footballer's wife was allegedly caught having sex in a car with a married police officer, it is claimed.

Chief Superintendent Gareth Blair is said to have been seen romping with the woman at a park-and-ride facility in Edinburgh, Scotland, last week.

He was allegedly spotted engaging in sexual activity with the wife of a former Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) football player, who has also played for other clubs in Scotland.

It is understood the woman, who is 40, met Blair at a gym, the Daily Record reports.

Blair, who has been suspended pending an investigation, was arrested after officers responded to complaints from the public.

A police source said: “Her name is being freely spoken about in stations and people are wondering if she’s going to be charged.”

Blair, 48, took up his post as Commander of Edinburgh Division in June.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner said: “We are investigating allegations of potential criminality against an officer and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Yesterday the Daily Record revealed officers are probing sex offence allegations against dozens of their own colleagues, with serving cops at the centre of 36 “live” probes.

The Scottish Sun reports that police are investigating the woman the Chief Superintendent was allegedly intimate with.

The newspaper previously reported that a member of the public called officers to the park-and-ride facility after spotting two people 'in a state of undress'.

The officers then found their boss in the car, according to the news outlet.

Blair appears to have closed all of his social media accounts.
