Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentina striker, 31, will join the Blues where he will link up again with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.

Chelsea chief Sarri had been keen to add to his attack this month and identified ex-Real Madrid striker Higuain, who thrived under his stewardship in Naples.

Under the Italian, Higuain enjoyed the best season of his career in 2015-16, scoring 36 goals in 35 Serie A matches and earning a £75million switch to Juventus.

But having been deemed surplus to requirements by the Bianconeri after the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo - and subsequently being dumped on loan at AC Milan - he will be tasked with giving the Blues the cutting edge that neither Alvaro Morata nor Olivier Giroud have been able to provide.

Higuain will join Chelsea on an initial six-month loan with the Blues having the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The Stamford Bridge outfit will also be able to extend the loan for another year as long as he meets certain contractual targets.

Higuain has been on loan at AC Milan but they have given their blessing for him to join Chelsea.

He was introduced as a second-half substitute as Milan were beaten by Juventus in Wednesday's Supercoppa.

Higuain's arrival at Chelsea will pave the way for Alvaro Morata to join Atletico Madrid.
