Remember Bastian Schweinsteiger?

Sure you do. German footballer. Lovely fella. Won the World Cup. Used to be commonly regarded as one of Europe's great central midfielders.

Sadly for the Man United player (he is still a Man United player, apparently), Jose Mourinho clearly doesn't share that opinion of the Bayern Munich legend. The United manager brutally axed Schweinsteiger from The Red Devils' first-team squad some time ago.

So, how has Schweinsteiger reacted to becoming an outcast?

Has he stomed off in a huff? Has he thrown his toys out of the pram and headed back to Germany in a petulant rage?

Not a chance. The consummate professional has way too much class for that sort of nonsense.

Instead, he is showing a remarkable level of commitment to his side, as this heartbreaking tweet from Old Trafford proves:

The German hero posted this just before United's 1-0 against Man City… and it's all a little too much to bear.

The smiley face.

The determination to remain happy and content, despite being stuck up in the stands.

The look in the eyes that clearly reveal a nice guy being slowly broken apart by the fact the world is slowly forgetting about him.
