Nyanza Golf Club to mark International Women's Day with special tournament

Nyanza Golf Club is set to host a special International Women`s Day tournament featuring a stunning lineup of participants and activities tailored towards celebrating women in the region.

Expected to be held on Saturday, the event will cater to veteran golfers from the corporates, as well as community stakeholders for a day geared on sports and empowerment.

The tournament has attracted a diverse field of participants, with key figures such as Lady Captain Dr. Lina Akello, Beatrice Otieno, Vice Lady Captain Rosemary Angote, and Cornilla Obare, the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Western Representative, all confirming their participation.

These influential women will not only showcase their skills on the course but also engage in insightful discussions in the evening session.

The first group, led by Prof. Hazel Miseda and Sally Hawi, will tee off at 7:00 AM, marking the official start of the tournament. They will be followed closely by Hellen Mumo at 7:40 AM and Brenda Aida at 8:15 AM, all of whom are part of the tournament's organizing committee. Their participation underscores the leadership role women continue to play in the sport.

At 8:30 AM, Cornilla Obare will be in action, symbolizing KLGU's commitment to growing women's golf in the western region. Consolate Achieng and Tabitha Ojwang will tee off at 9:00 AM, with Lina Akello following at 9:30 AM. Their presence reflects a broader mission beyond golf-fostering mentorship, networking, and professional growth.

This year's tournament is backed by key stakeholders, including Aga Khan Hospital, Stanbic Bank, and Make Me Smile, all dedicated to promoting women's empowerment.

The day will not only celebrate the sport but also offer an educative session in the evening featuring accomplished speakers from different fields.

Dr. Sikuku, an OB-GYN specialist from Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu, will provide insights on women's health, while Prof. Miseda, the Vice-Chancellor of Great Lakes University, will address education and leadership. Other speakers include Carol Adhiambo, the Director of Green Wells, a leading oil and gas company, and Ruth Kimotho, Director of Nyanza Beauty Cosmix, the L'Oreal cosmetics distributor for the western region.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Akello and Consolate Achieng, both of whom represent excellence in healthcare and finance, respectively.

Their leadership in curating this event signifies the rising influence of women in male-dominated industries.
