Alessio braves winds to win in Malindi

Home club's Alessio Bozzolasco braved strong and heavy sea winds from the nearby Indian ocean to register major victory at the 9 hole Malindi Golf and Country Club course over the weekend.

The handicap 10 golfer delivered a stellar performance at the ongoing 2025 NCBA golf series carding a 66 nett to clinch the overall winner title, beating a competitive field of golfers drawn from Coastal Region.

In the men's category, Tukero Ole Kina playing off handicap 14, emerged victorious with a nett score of 67 narrowly edging out handicap 23 Philip Matei who secured the runner-up position with identical scores on countback.

In the Ladies' Category, Silvana Franciolli, playing off handicap 21 claimed top honors after carding 71 nett.

She was followed closely by handicap 10 Auma Obama who finished as runner-up with a count back score of 72 nett after tying with the Club's Lady Captain Hamida Chidagaya who finished third.

Among the juniors, Emmanuel John, playing off handicap 33, posted an impressive nett score of 65 to win the Junior Winner title.

In the Nearest to the Pin challenge, Ali Abdallah won in the Men's category with 8.45 meters, while Susan Waithaka emerged as the top Lady golfer in the category with a distance of 10.10 meters.

NCBA Bank Malindi Branch Manager Fahima Abdisheikh lauded the golfers for their outstanding performances and reiterated the Bank's commitment to growing the sport across the region.

"We are delighted with the incredible turnout and high level of competition witnessed today. The NCBA Golf Series continues to provide a great platform for golfers of all levels to showcase their talent while creating strong connections within the golfing community. We are proud to bring this event back to Malindi and look forward to more exciting tournaments in the series, "said Fahima.

The club chairman Benjamin Wasige said, "Hosting this event once again has been a privilege. The course was in excellent condition, and we saw fantastic play from all participants. The passion displayed today by our golfers reaffirms the significance of this tournament, and we truly appreciate NCBA for making it possible."

The Malindi event marked the third leg of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series, following the successful events held at VetLab Sports Club and Nandi Bears Golf Club.

The winners from this event became the latest entrants to the list of golfers who will compete in the Grand Finale later this year for the ultimate title.

Following the Malindi event, focus now shifts to Kiambu Golf Club which will host the fourth leg of the series on 15th March.
