National captain Lejirma leads team to 2024 Region IV Championship in Rwanda

Team Kenya national Captain John Lejirma will be leading his squad to the 2024 Region IV Golf Championship set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda.

The four-man team selected by Kenya Golf Union (KGU) are Kiambu's Michael Karanga who currently leads in Kenya Amateur Golf Ranking) (KAGR) Series with 693 points and Lejirma of Kenya Railways currently ranked second and also the team Captain.

Others are Kiambu's youngster Elvis Muigua ranked third and Nyali's Adel Balala who is ranked fourth.

The Championship is set to take place from Friday, October 4th to 6th at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda where team Kenya will be defending their title for the third time in the coveted trophy formerly known as the East Africa Challenge.

Lejirma noted that they are truly honored to represent Kenya on this grand stage and have trained rigorously hand in hand with the help of their Coach John Liefland saying they are very ready for the challenge and conveyed strong confidence in the team's readiness.

"I'm confident that the team is in great shape, and we will come back with the trophy. We are the defending champions twice in a row and we aim to bring glory to our Country this year again and I want to take this opportunity to thank our supporters for their unwavering support and also believing in us. I urge all the people at large to come together in supporting and cheering our own. We are ready to go out there and show the world what Kenya is made of in terms of Golf Sport, "said Lejirma.

According to KGU, the team will depart for Rwanda on Wednesday, October 2nd, where they will compete against Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, Seychelles, Reunion and the host nation Rwanda.

Accompanying the team is the KGU tournament Director Chris Kinuthia who confirmed that the team has undergone rigorous training for the past month under the guidance of National Team Coach John Van Liefland.

Kenya team goes to the Championship with their heads high after retaining the title at the 2023 Africa Region Four Golf Championships played at the Par 71 Addis Ababa Golf Club in Ethiopia.

Kenya team had comprised captain Dennis Maara from Limuru, Michael Karang from Kiambu, John lejirma of Kenya railways and youngster Elvis Muigua from Kiambu who fired a total of three under par to complete the championships with (+12) 864 and retained the title they won in 2022 in Uganda.
