A handicap advantage presented Elizabeth Akinyi with the overall title victory in the KenGen golf Day at Kakamega Sports Club, over the weekend.

Akinyi, playing off handicap 28, savoured sweet victory thanks to the double stroking that saw her chalk a commanding score of 39 made up of 19 and 20 stableford points.

The Nyanza Golf Club visiting golfer, who is also the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) western region representative, was in Kakamega to represent her captain Tom Odongo as well as persuade the day's sponsor, KenGen, to support the foundation by donating golf kits to junior golfers. 100 golfers participated in the daylong meet led by hosts Kakamega Sports Club (54), Eldoret Club (15), Nyanza Golf Club (10), Nandi Bears (9), Muthaiga Golf Club (2).

Nakuru Golf Club, Ruiru Sports Club, Naivasha Sports Club, Sigona Golf Club, Kericho Sports Club had a one golfer each.

Cautious after hurting her knee two weeks ago, Akinyi took it easy as she played with precision to clinch the winning score.

"I played alongside an amazing flight that understood challenge with my pace of play, but still urged me on. It was an amazing round altogether and I'm very happy for all that I achieved today," Akinyi said.

Handicap 10, Julius Oketch returned the same score of 39 stableford points but lost to Akinyi on countback to take overall second prize.

In Division 1 (handicap 0-15 for men and 0-22 for ladies) Logan Busolo outshone the rest of the pack after carding 38 stableford points. Beatrice Shikuku led the ladies on a score of 35 stableford points.
