Moroa wins Commander's tournament in Naivasha

Collins Moroa beat a team of 170 golfers to emerge the overall winner of the Kenya Air Force Commander's Cup tournament played at the 18-hole Great Rift Valley golf course in Naivasha on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 28 Moroa carded an impressive 42 stable ford points to clinch the trophy in the day long 18-hole tournament that brought together golfers from across the country.

"Continuous practice and patience pays and it has really worked today. I am so grateful for the victory and extend my sincere thanks to my playing partners and the club for this wonderful day where we enjoyed our game and had a lot of fun," said Moroa.

Handicap 8 E. Murunga was the division one winner on 32 points ahead of handicap 8 H. Wanyama who was the runner with 30 points.

In the division 2 category, handicap 21 lady golfer Valine Akoth floored her opponents with an excellent score of 41 stable ford points. Major Kimundi (25) finished second with 36 points.

The KCB-sponsored tournamnt also saw the Mombasa-based Faith Muteti playing off handicap 25 claim to the lady winner's prize after carding thre points while her colleagues Grace Kwamboka went home with the first nine award with 23 points and Mesaidi Maarifa brought 19 points to win the second nine prize.

Martin Kiambi was the longest drive winner in the men's category and Christine Kamais won the ladies' side.

Kenya Air Force Commander Major General John Omenda said he was happy to be part of this amazing golf outing that has brought officers together to battle for the top honors.

"Indeed, we have seen very good golf on the course, and I expect the sport to grow to another level. As the Kenya Air Force Golf Association, we intend to partner with the different golf courses in the country to continue building this game we all love," said Omenda.

KCB Bank Kenya Director Corporate Banking John Okulo said the bank takes pride in sports sponsorships as it aims to continue impacting the people in the communities positively.

Next weekend, action will be at the Kitale Golf Club course for the 13th leg of the ongoing KCB East Africa Golf Tour.

Elsewhere at the same day, Benjamin Wasige teamed up with Emanuel Dena to emerge the overall winners of the inaugural Coast Golf League launch golf tournament played at the par 71 Mombasa Golf Club course.

The duo brought a combined score of 40 points to win the one day 18-hole vent that was graced by Coast golf clubs members from the home Club, Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa County, Diamond Leisure Golf Resort from Kwale County, Vipingo Baobab Ridge Golf Resort and Malindi Country Club from Kilifi County.

George Mokaya and Julie Trayner had 38 points to claim the winner's prize while John Maina (junor) and Francesca Biancacci on 37 points were the runners up.

Taking the third place was the team of Victor Simbi and Justine Ongere who carded a combined score of 35 points.

The fourth slot on a combined score of 35 points was won by the team of Randal Adams and Allan Habala.
