Machakos plays host to Red Cross charity meet

Golfing action will this weekend head to the par-72, Machakos Sports Club course for the annual Kenya Red Cross Charity Golf Tournament.
Already a sizable field has confirmed participation in a continuous draw that sees the first flight tee-up as early as 6:30am and the last flight heads out at 2pm with post entries being accepted.
According to resident professional, John Kiondo, "The course is playing well and despite the dry spell that has affected it, we are still lucky that we have water in our dams and are able to irrigate the fairways and greens which are holding but pretty fast."
The event seeks to fundraise towards implementation of different resilience, risk-reduction, and intervention programs in the communities targeting the most vulnerable populations through its network of the 47 county branches.
These programs are aimed at alleviating human suffering to the most vulnerable communities, and populations affected by disasters.
With the KRCS Machakos branch hosting the tournament with the proceeds collected expected to be channeled towards supporting the organization to help it strengthen its mandate on disaster preparedness, response, and resilience building.
At Kiambu Golf Club, after hosting a successful August Babies tournament last week, action returns on Friday for Clubnite presented by Britam Insurance.
According to those drawn, stiff competition is expected from within the membership and expected guests as they battle out for the array of prizes which will include Longest drive and Nearest to the pin contest.
The 2022 club Champion Alex Ngunu who has been exhibiting good form lately is expected to lead the title onslaught.
"Currently the course is in pristine condition and the playing very well and for that reason we expect a high score as it is playing pretty easy from the field and assure those who will participate of a memorable golf outing." said Mike Nyangi, Captain Kiambu.
Western Jazz comprised of 100-plus golfers drawn from western region on Naivasha including Nakuru, Kericho, Eldoret, Kitale, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu and Nandi Bears including will on Saturday host the also host the annual Western Jazz Tournament at the nine-hole Kenya Railway Golf club this Saturday.
Among the highlights of the self-sponsored meet is the sumptuous traditional delicacies such as brown Ugali, Mursik and traditional brews that will be served during the day.
The sponsors have lined up several prizes for the day
