Lucas bounces back with victory at Sigona

Veteran sports personality Mike Lukas won the overall title of the Saj Ceramics golf tournament played at the par-72, Sigona Golf Club course over the weekend.

The former chairman of top flight rugby side Kenya Harlequin overpowered the course as he registered a whopping 42 stableford points

This was made up of 22 stableford points from his outward nine and topped it up with 20 stableford points from his inward nine to stand tall over a field of 252 golfers who participated in the day-long tournament.

He also had five pars and four bogeys on his front nine and after the turn, he inked four pars, four bogeys and a lone double-bogey.

Having been away from the course for a while, his swing had collapsed due to lack of practice but he was glad that the reconstruction process is on an upward trajectory as confirmed with his overdue win.

"This is one of the best wins after such a long time. I'm happy that my crispy swing is slowly coming back," he said.

"Everything is falling back in place. All I need to focus on is my accuracy and I will be good to go."

Sigona being a technical course, his chipping and putting came in handy and contributed a lot to his great showing.

Handicap 21, Bharat Zakharia was second on a score of 38 stableford points.

Ahead of the pack in the ladies section was Zipporah Gichigi playing off handicap, who posted 35 stableford points.

First nine prize went to Nawaz Popat while Second nine prize was taken by Steve Njunge after they returned 22 and 20 stableford points respectively.

While Vishaal Patel won the Longest drive contest, while Khushil Shah took Nearest to Pin prize.

16 twos were recorded during the meet including Bharat Zakharia on hole-three and Zeeshan Malik on hole-14.
