Practice pays off for Sahota in Nakuru

Mandeep Sahota led by example carding 38 stableford points to claim Isuzu golf day overall title at the par-72, Nakuru Golf Club over the weekend.
The club chairman, playing off handicap 13, capitalized on his home course advantage, navigating it cautiously to win.
Heralding the meet which was presented by Africa Commercial Motor Group Limited and Isuzu and played under clear weather by 115 golfers from across the country.
Host Nakuru led with the highest entries followed by neighboring Njoro Country Club, Nyahururu Sports Club, Thika Sports Club, and Railway Golf Club.
Others were, Nyali Golf and Country Club, Sigona Golf Club, Limuru Golf and Country Club, Nyanza Golf Club, Eldoret Club.
Sahota had a good run in the company of his vice chairman Titus Lusaka, Hellen Wambui and former Lady captain Susan Ikua who spurred him.
A culmination of a lot of practice into his mid and short game in the recent past which has seen him earn 12 straight podium finishes and eventually winning Isuzu golf day overall title.
Earlier, Chairman Sahota led the sponsors, guests and members present in observing a minute of silence in honor of the late John Mutegi who served as the Captain in 1992 and later as Chairman in 1999.
Eulogizing him as a sportsman per excellence who contributed enormously to the development of the club and growth of the game during his tenure and captaincy.
"I've been practicing a lot lately, working on my irons and chipping where I have shortcomings but I'm glad it is paying off with my good run in the past couple of weeks." Sahota said
Handicap 18, Gregory Maurice was lurking in Sahota's shadow one point shy at 37 stableford points for Overall winner second with rookie Enock Ogembo playing off handicap 21 coming in third with 36 stableford points.
In the ladies section, handicap 28 Grace Wanjiku topped with 33 stableford points as Dr Fred Mugambi playing off handicap 20 was best among visiting golfers on a score of 36 stableford points.
Elite amateur Sarat Singh outclassed other single handicappers to bag Gross winner prize with 32 stableford points off handicap 2.
Ramesh Khagram playing off handicap 27 emerged as Senior prize winner on a score of 34 stableford points with Gurvir Sagoo taking the accolades in the junior side on a score of 35 stableford points off handicap six.
Taking the nines were Allan Cheruiyot on the First nine with 28 stableford points while the Second Nine was won by Hussein Hassanali with 20 stableford points. Gurtej Sahota bagged Nearest to pin prize.
In the longest drive contest, youngster Gurvir Sagoo made a brace in the men category as Grace Wanjiku won Longest drive lady winner prize.
