It's joy and excitement as the first edition of Eldoret Linda Maji Pro. AM Golf tournament teed off at Eldoret Club in Uasin Gishu County yesterday.

The two-day tournament organised by Eldowas Company in partnership with the Standard Group PLC is aimed at winning customer's loyalty in enjoying Eldowas water services in the wake of climate change.

The event has attracted both local and foreign professional and amateur players led by Ugandan-based golfer Machael Alunga, Moses Tanui, Michael Khayeka and Shirleen Nanji.

Others are Kimeli Mutai, Abraham Kalgalo, Edwin Asusa, Dismas Indiza, Sammy Mulama and Aron Kitur among others.

After claiming Manchester Golf trophy last week, Michael Alunga has now set his eyes on becoming the inaugural Linda Maji Golf tournament champion.

"I'm well prepared and confident of extending my record of winning in Kenya. I want to be the first champion of this tournament," said Alunga.

Eldowas Managing Director Peter Biwott said the company is planning to improve the quality and volume of water supply to the counties not only in Rift Valley but the whole country.

"We are hosting the first golf tournament here seeking proper collaboration of golfers in this region and other parts of the country. This will put our call on climate action and the conservation of water resources become a reality," said Biwott.

"Eldowas recognises golfers because the majority of them are our major and serious consumers in hospitality and manufacturing. We also recognise other sporting activities like athletics which have put the name of our country in a better place worldwide."

"The entry of Linda Water Mitaani Golf tournament has surpassed the 156 mark which as a company we rank it as the biggest tournament in Kenya," said Biwott.

Eldowas chairman Andrew Chelogoi thanked golfers for turning up in large numbers.
