Vet Lab's Kinyanjui clinches Amcham golf tournament

Vet Lab Sports Club lady captain Irene Kinyanjui is the winner of the 2022 American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) Golf Tournament held on Friday at the par 72 Karen Golf and Country Club in Nairobi.
Kinyanjui fired 43 stableford points to floor over 200 participants who took part in the high profile competition.
The 57-year old mother of two had an amazing game in the front nine where she collected 23 points before amassing 20 points at the back nine.
"I'm excited, I'm happy to be a winner today," Kinyanjui told Standard Sports.
"I had a lovely four ball on the course, we had a good time on the pitch."
The handicap 23 hard hitter said being a skipper at her club gives her opportunity to play more golf, thus her amazing fitness currently ahead of the Karen event.
"I spend a lot of time on the golf course at Vet Lab, I also engage in the Club Nites," she said.
"These definitely prepared me well for the Amcham tournament. I had no self doubt today, I was simply at ease with myself."
The Nairobi business woman was making her debut in the Amcham competition that was in its tenth edition.
She thanked the organisers for staging a very quality event stating that other participants gave her a run for her money.
"We had a lovely experience to cherish for the rest of our lives. The tournament gave us a good chance to meet new people," she said.
"I got the opportunity to interact with players from other clubs and sponsors who enhanced our networking."
Kinyanjui first embraced golf in 2015 after being persuaded by her friends several times to join the sport.
"I kept turning them down, but they were so persistent," she said.
"I regret not starting earlier,, but nonetheless I'm happy that I'm on the right direction as far as the game is concerned."
Some of the benefits Kinyanjui highlighted that one tends to gain while playing golf include an amazing walk on the green courses which she terms as therapeutic.
"Golf provides you with a good ambience for relaxing, there's interaction with new people, you forge new relationships on the golf courses, you cut amazing business deals there that can change your life for the better," she underlined. Kinyanjui reiterates that she has no plans to retire from the game and instead will engage in the sport till her twilight year's.
"I'm already addicted. In the next five years, I hope to slash my handicap from 23 to a single digit," she concluded.
