Junior golfer Peter Gathogo is the Overall winner of the Mt Kenya Junior Championship played at Nyeri Golf Club on Sunday.

Gathogo, 11, from Nakuru Golf Club, fired 2-under-72 to outsmart 39 other juniors who participated in the daylong tournament presented by Equity Bank.

Being maiden round at the hilly course, he took advantage of the tee-up, hitting the greens on regulation, though having a bit of a challenge with his putting on hole number three, a par-five.

After overshooting the green, he chipped back on but fumbled with two uphill putts that fell short of the cup before tapping it in for five.

He had an easygoing with his long shots and well-thought-out approach shots.

Carding 34 nett on his front nine and 36 nett from his back nine to star.

"I feel over the moon to have won this tournament, especially on my first outing on this scenic course. I've been in good form lately. After finishing second at Sigona. I'm very happy!" said Gathogo.

" Now I can take a deserved break from the course and concentrate on my studies as we reopen school this week."

His marker Darsh Shah of Nyeri Golf Club was Gross winner (boys) with 84(40+44) nett as Nanyuki Sports Club's Sasha Kavithe bagged Gross winner (girls) prize with 94 nett.
