Golf: Messo claims victory in Kericho

Tobias Messo carded 38 stableford points to emerge the overall winner at the 2022 Vivo Energy Kenya Golf tournament played at the Kericho Golf Club course, over the weekend.

The handicap 20 golfer was only one point ahead of handicap 11 Kibet Too, who was the Men winner in the day-long stableford tournament that attracted 150 golfers.

Dorcas Bett, playing off handicap 13, was the Lady winner on 35 points, also one point ahead of handicap 21 Lydia Jebichi, who took the Lady runner-up slot.

Handicap 1 Nelson Koech, on 36 point, won in the Division One category, while handicap 36 Anthony Korir on 36 points, won the Division Two. Handicap 38 Joyce Cherotich triumphed in the Division Three category with 41 points.

Japhet Songwa, playing off handicap 15, was the Guest winner on 31 points and handicap 1 Fidelis Kimazi, with 32 points, was the staff winner.

Meanwhile at Ruiru Sports Club, handicap 20 George Wandera returned 39 points to emerge the overall winner of the Hon. Aloise Kinyanjui golf tournament.

Kames Kibogo, playing off handicap 10, was the Men winner with a countback score of 38 points after tying on the same score with handicap 16 Kelvin Kuria, who was the men runner-up.

Handicap 33 Rose Kagin was the lady winner on 38 points, while handicap 18 Sophie Mbochi, with 37 points, was the lady runner-up. Handicap 16 Victor Kuria, on 38 points, was the Guest winner.

Meanwhile, seven Kenyan golfers from Golf Park are still chasing honours at the 2022 Kilimanjaro Golf Open tournament that started on Saturday at the KiliGolf Club course, near Arusha, in Tanzania.

The Kenyans, who are sponsored by Real Time Group, are Aisha Duba, Nancy Wairimu, Margaret Njoki, Winfred Mumbua, Zawadi Safari, Lilian Atho and Shirley Cheptoo.

The two-day event was expected to end last evening and has attracted several golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi and Tanzania.
