This weekend’s first leg of the 14 leg-series, which will eventually culminate in a grand finale at the Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort in August, has attracted a field of 102 who will be teeing off from 6.30am.

The Safaricom Golf Tour tees off this weekend in Nanyuki and will traverse several venues across the country before winding down with the final leg at the Vipingo Ridge in the Coast in August 2022.

The long awaited 2022 Safaricom Golf Tour, was launched last weekend at the Ngong Racecourse’s Golf Park.

Located at the Nanyuki Sports Club in Nanyuki town, the golf course in Nanyuki offers a scenic view of Mount Kenya.

It is a nine hole course that has been in use since 1923 and will certainly bring out the best of the field that is expected to take to the greens on Saturday 29 January 2022.

Nanyuki derives its name from the Enyaanyukie Maasai word for resemblance and the town has been in existence since 1907.

The course has played host to a series of leading golfing tournaments in the country over the years and has again proven to be a destination of choice for this innovative golf competition.

The Safaricom Golf Tour, which will also visit courses in Limuru, Muthaiga, Nyanza, Nyali, Eldoret, Karen, Machakos, Kericho, Kitale, Royal Nairobi, Nakuru, Kenya Airforce ,Vet Lab and Vipingo Ridge is focused on demystifying the game while tapping, nurturing and growing talent, especially among young golfers.

Among those drawn include Richard Kabugi who last year emerged the winner, and will be all out to defend his title and book a slot for the grand finale in Vipingo

Entries for the junior event being coordinated by the JGF secretariat and its Mount Kenya regional representative Baldev Singh close Friday at 6pm.

In its support of the Junior Golf Foundation’s effort to nurture and develop talent from the young age of five in every corner of the country, Safaricom has included a junior event in each of the 14 tournaments.

The junior events will be played a day after Safaricom’s Corporate tournaments, hence soon after the corporate event on Saturday, the juniors to be drawn from different parts of the country will take over the course to battle it out for an array of prizes.
