Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) has set up an elaborate plan to take the game to the next level.

The grand strategy involves extensive training of coaches, increased local tours and expanded development programmes.

JGF President Larry Ngala is optimistic that the ambitious project they have set up will be ultimately successful.

"We are glad the plan has started to receive support from various quarters," said Ngala.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has praised the strategy saying it will help develop the game across the country among the youth.

“Our mandate as the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage, is to develop and promote the expansion of sports industry in Kenya sports," said Amina.

"We firmly believe the successful implementation of this program will contribute to the growth and development of golf in the country."

Apart from the Sports Ministry, several corporates including Safaricom, NCBA, Crown Paints and Prime Bank have come on board to support the noble cause meant to take the children's game to the next level.

The companies on Sunday signed a three-year renewable agreements with JGF at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

The partnerships will cater for training of coaches, engagements in local championships and development of the sport countrywide.

“We are quite fortunate to have brought on board the four big corporates.

"Up to seventy percent of their investment will go into developing the sport and identifying juniors seeking to take their golfing ability to the next level," Ngala explained.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom said their partnership will take the game a step further by involving young people and making the sport more accessible to them.

“Over the last 21 years, we have been one of the biggest supporters of various golf initiatives across the country including Corporate Social Responsibility based competitions, global events such as the Magical Kenya Open and Ladies Invitational in Vipingo as well as our own events such as the Safaricom Business Golf Series," said Ndegwa.

"Our involvement with JGF is just the first step in this journey."
