Golf: Patel calls the shots at Sigona

Kiran Patel carded 38 stableford points to emerge the overall winner of the 2021 East African Seeds Golf tournament at the Sigona Golf Club course, at the weekend.
The handicap 21 Patel was a point ahead of runner-up handicap 21 Shaqur Haq, who had a countback score of 37 points after tying on scores with third-placed handicap 20 James Nyutu.
Milka Mburu, playing off handicap 26, was the Lady winner on 36 points, while Ian Irungu, playing off handicap 30, carded 34 points to claim the Guest Prize.
Handicap 3 Ronak Malke hit 75gross to win the Gross prize while Rajesh Shah, on 23 points, was the first nine winner. Kamal Shemi, on 21 points, was the second nine winner.
Kush Mediratta won the longest drive prize, while Amar Hindocha lifted the nearest to pin title.
At the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf course, Caroline Munyi on 66 nett won the 2021 African Entrepreneur Collective (AEC) Kenya Club nite prize. Epapra, on 69 nett, finished second, while Tirus Githaiga on 73 nett was third.
Martin Ombura won the Guest prize with 70 nett.
James Gitonga carded 31 nett to win the nine-hole catergory while Clifford Tolo was the runner-up on a countback score of 33 nett after tying on scores with third-placed Christine Kinyeru.
The event, which was sponsored by AEC Kenya and attracted over 100 golfers, saw Harshimran Kaur, playing off handicap 9, win the Guest prize on 33 nett.
AEC Kenya Managing Director Job Matseshe thanked golfers for turning up for the event and said the company is one of three organisations, which was chosen by the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) to support 100 women-led small businesses in East Africa.
“They will receive skills workshops, consulting services, networking opportunities and direct access to financing for their companies, said Matseshe.
He said as AEC continues to support golf in Kenya, they will also offer full-service business consulting in Mombasa, focusing on developing skills, abilities and networks for entrepreneurs.
At Ruiru Sports Club, handicap 17 Joseph Karienye, on 66 nett, won the September 2021 Monthly Mug. Handicap 20 Daniel Mukei, on a countback score 66, was the runner-up.
Mukei had tied on the same score with third-placed handicap 21 Anthony Kamau.
The Lady winner was handicap 25 Catherine Gitonga with 73 nett, while handicap 24 Grace Miano, on 74nett, finished second with handicap 33 Agnes Mwaura, with 76 nett, finishing third.
Meanwhile, the Safari Tour team has invited stakeholders for the Tour’s virtual launch on September 17, from 10am.
