For junior Sagoo, age counts for nothing

Junior golfer Gurviv Sagoo maintained his cool to triumph in the Crown Paints Extreme Golf Series at the par-73 Nakuru Golf Club course over the weekend.
The meet, which also doubled up as Chairman’s Prize 2020, saw a field of 122 golfers struggle with the tough playing course.
Playing off handicap 28, Sagoo fired a superb round total of 40 stableford points. He had 19 stableford points from the front nine before putting in a stronger showing on his back nine for an additional 21 stableford points.
One of the most promising juniors from the club, Sagoo had one par on the outward nine, five bogeys and two double-bogeys with two scratches.
He then managed two pars on the outward nine, five bogeys, one double-bogey and a lone scratch to sum up his deserved win in style.
Extreme Golf Series started off at Limuru Country Club, with Vet Lab Sports Club hosting the second leg. The event then moved to Muthaiga Golf Club for the third leg.
It then headed to Kiambu Golf Club, Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Karen Country Club, Sigona Golf Club, before winding up with the grand finale at Nakuru Golf Club.
Playing off handicap 27, Wesley Siele from Kericho Golf Club was second on a score of 36 (15+21) stableford points, edging out Elton Mungai on count-back to Overall third with a score of 36 (17+19) stableford points.
Nancy Steinman, on a neat score of 34 (14+20) stableford points, was the Best Lady golfer as Man winner prize went to a handicap 16 Francis Kioni, who had a score of 36 (18+18) stableford points.
Phillip Gathii with 31(16+15) stableford points clinched the Client prize. Titus Lusaka, with 21 stableford points, and Jennifer Mugweru with 21 stableford points were the First and Second nines winners respectively.
Dipak Shah bagged Nearest to the Pin prize, as Kirti Morjaria aka “DikDik” scooped Senior winner prize with 34 (17+17) stableford points.
Junior winner prize was won by Charles Kamais on a score of 34 stableford points.
Paul Gitau was Junior winner second with 31 stableford points.
All the unclaimed proceeds from the Chairman (Steve Kihumba) prize 2020 bet were donated to Nakuru Hospice.
“The number of golfers have been increasing by the day, which is a good sign. The sport is growing,” said Nakuru Golf Club chairman Steve Kihumba.
At Kakamega Sports Club, handicap 20 Jackson Songwa carded a sterling score of 41 stableford points to bag Christmas Golf tournament title.
The tournament was presented by Chandarana Foodplus and Goodlife Pharmacy and attracted a field of 66 golfers.
