Kenya Railway Golf Clubs’ John Lejirma sustained Kenya’s hopes in the amateur Category after the second round of the 79th edition of Uganda Open after finishing T2 after firing (75, 72) 147.

Another Kenyan hopeful Peter Rimui of Nanyuki Sports Club finished T9 at (78,74)152, one spot behind Adiel Balala who fired a second round total of (76,76)152.

It will be interesting to see how Lejirma fares on especially if he manages his mental game well into the third round.

The tournament proper gets underway today (Thursday) with a contingent of 30 Kenyan professionals out to get a share of the US$30,000 kitty which was scaled down from US$50,000 last year. With the eventual winner pocketing Sh730, 000 translating into 22.5% of the total prize fund.

On the local scene, various courses will be hosting different golfing events similar to last weekend’s golf galore.

At the par 72 Vet Labs Sports Club, Vice-Chairman (Mary Maingi) putter has drawn a huge field of 443 golfers. The overall winner will be determined on a differential scoring format with Medal format being played on Friday and stableford format on Saturday.

On the first flight teeing off at 6:58am is the trio of J. Odhiambo, T. Macakiage, D. Thiongó while on the tenth tee, Ian Maina, P. Njunge, T. Macakiage, N. Koigi will tee-off at 6:20am.

The weather forecast indicates that it shall be cloudy unlike last weekend’s Captain (Adam Nyaga) Prize 2020 which saw play stopped briefly due to heavy rains that rendered the greens unplayable.
