Wroe conquers Sigona

Seasoned lady golfer Maureen Wroe emerged the overall winner of the KenGen Golf Day at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club at the weekend.

Playing off handicap 21, Wroe posted a total of 42 points to carry the day as Paul Dhanani, playing off handicap 12, finished second on 40 points, while handicap 23 Jagdeep Channa needed a second nine score of 20 stableford points to beat Neil Shah and Maysam Kimji on count back to finish third on 38 points (18, 20).

Shah, playing off handicap 10, was fourth on 38 points (19, 19), while Khimji, playing off handicap five, came fifth on 38 points.

Chetan Hindocha, playing off handicap 12, won the first nine prize on 22 points, while the second nine honours went to handicap 12 Mwaura Kariuki on 19 points.

David Muthike, playing off handicap 16, won the guest prize on 37 points, followed by KenGen Managing Director Eddie Njoroge on 24 points.

Engineer Mwiti of Limuru Country Club was the tournament’s guest winner on 35 points, while Royal’s Timothy Kuria, playing off handicap 24, finished second on 33 points. Wroe also won the nearest to the pin prize, as the longest drive prize went to Kabir Choda.

Emerged victorious

Meanwhile, a team of Andrew Jones, Christina Cole and Mark Charleson emerged victorious, during the Karen Country Club Chairman’s Prize event at the weekend.

The event, hosted by the outgoing Karen Country Club Chairman Jinaro Kibet, saw the team of Roger Wilson, Barbara Charteson and Benson Kariuki finish second during the event that brought together more than 300 members of the club.

Charles Lofty, posted 39-points to emerge the overall winner of the 2012 Chairman’s Prize. Charles Gacheru was the men winner, also on 39 points. General (Rtd) Peter Waweru emerged the gross winner with a score of 4-over par 76.

Worthy project

Raphael Nzomo was the best among former chairmen with a score of 36 points. Congratulating the winners, Kibet said: “The last two years of service to the Karen Country Club have been most satisfying, but I would not have done it without the support of all the members.” ?

“Today, I’m humbled by the support extended by members from all sections of the club. Let me thank the tennis section for undertaking a most worthy project, of building tennis courts for the less fortunate in Kibera.”

Eng. George Muturi was men runner up with 38 points, beating Allan Gachukia on count-back. John Simba was fourth on 37 points. The lady winner was Jacinta Wambugu on 38 points, beating Doreen Kairuthi and lady captain Margaret Thande on count-back. The nines went to Rosemary Njogu and F Schulter.

Susan Kasinga claimed the longest drive prize for the ladies, while Anthony Gacheru took the men’s prize as Ezekiel Owuor claimed the nearest to the pin prize.

The event, that saw members take part in other disciplines, saw the team of Brett Sievwright and Tracey Kyffin lift the squash trophy with the team of Bob Kyffin and Steve Humphreys finishing second. During the event, Jinaro gave Sh25,000 towards the construction of a tennis court in Kibera.
